We explore the role trees play in our daily lives . . .
Trees and woods are rarely private, in the sense that they are usually visible to the general public and therefore part of the social space. They belong to the neighbourhood as much as to the notional owner.
Trees are also social beings. They are joined to each other through a web of connections underground, and they are joined to the wider society of wildlife through countless
interactions with bugs, birds and bats above the ground. They are also joined to us in an invisible exchange of carbon dioxide and oxygen, by their moderation of humidity, temperature and pollutants, and by showering the air we breath with feelgood ions and volatile oils.
